I am telling you 10 killer RV upgrades, along with how much they cost and how easy it is to do. You are going to see ideas like installing a new mattress, to putting up LED magnet lights. Here’s a list of to-dos that you’ll want to get done before your next camping trip.

1. New Keyless Entry Lock RV Upgrade
This is an RV upgrade that we did after just a couple of trips in our new RV. I was constantly nervous about leaving our keys inside and getting locked out! We only had two sets of keys and so it was only a matter of time before it would have happened. This was fairly easy to set up and install. It took a little bit of time to program our code, but once we got that set up, we were good to go. The actual installation of the device was very simple.

2. RV Mattress Upgrade
One of the first things many people do is upgrade their RV mattress. The mattresses that come with new RV’s are notoriously awful. Specifically for our RV, the Sabre 37FLL, the slide in our bedroom comes over our bed. We needed a mattress that was not thick. This one was 8 inches, but also very comfortable and supportive! It inflated nicely after a couple of hours and didn’t have any strange smells like some of the boxed mattresses.

3. Caulk is an easy but necessary RV upgrade
This may not be an issue in every RV, but in ours specifically, there was a significant amount of leaking anytime the shower was used! It was pretty annoying, and we were going through bath mats and towels quickly.
Time to complete: 15 minutes

4. Washer & Dryer RV Upgrade
We found that for our family, it was going to be important to do laundry on the road. Some RVers are able to get by with using laundry mats, but we decided to get a washer/dryer combo so we could keep up with it all. We went with a ventless washer/dryer combo and it’s worked really well for us.
One of the most popular washer/dryer combos for RVs is the Vented Splendide Combo Washer/Dryer. We chose to go with a ventless option, and while it does take longer to dry everything, it’s been working great for us.
With a vented washer/dryer, you’ll likely need it professionally installed as they install a vent on the side of your RV. We were trying to keep things cost-effective and purchasing and installing the washer/dryer just wasn’t in the cards at the moment. A ventless washer/dryer can just be put into the designated space, hooked up, and is good to go.
The hardest part is just getting it up and into the right spot!

5. Black Out Curtains
This is a must when setting up your RV! Our bedroom and kids’ loft had shades, however, they were not in any way black-out. I found myself covering them with towels when the kids were napping until I finally hopped onto Amazon and grabbed some blackout curtains to fix the problem. An easy, but necessary fix! We opted for some that we could pull up and down, but we’ve seen people also hang up curtains as well.
Time to complete: 10-30 minutes (depending on if you have to hang up curtains)

6. Water Filter System Upgrade for your RV
If you don’t want to lug around a bunch of gallon water jugs every time you’re going on the road, then it might be worthwhile to look into upgrading your water filter system in your RV. This water filter is really easy to install, as you just hook it up to your hose. You also can mount it up next to your freshwater hose if you’d like.

7. Magnet Lights… Everywhere!
Okay, this one is a favorite! These little gadgets are amazing. They have motion sensors, are rechargeable and you can stick them everywhere. Pantry, cabinets, under counters, and your bed, the sky is seriously the limit! My husband bought these off Amazon and they have been one of my favorite easy upgrades. When you’re looking through the pantry to find that one item way in the back, you’ll be thankful that you had these motion sensor lights!

8. RV Showerhead Upgrade
This is another thing most RVers will do right away! The shower head that comes with an RV is not amazing, let’s be honest. We love good water pressure! This is an easy and inexpensive upgrade that you can do right off the bat that makes a big difference in shower quality. We actually just used a residential shower head. you don’t have to use anything specific to RVs, which means you’ve got lots of options to choose from. Here is a couple that would work.

9. Thin Shade Door Upgrade
Our new RV did not have a shade on the front window of the door. A pretty easy fix, but it made a huge difference in keeping the RV dark. Some people opt to get a reflective shade, but we chose a black-out one to keep it nice and dark.

10. The Best Killer RV Upgrade… Decorate Your RV!
Probably our favorite killer upgrade in our RV! It’s so much fun to turn your RV into a little home. We put up some frames, and small artificial plants, got a rug and some blankets and pillows for the couches. We plan to put up some shelving in the bathroom and kitchen for some extra storage. It’s been one of my favorite things, filling the space with things that make it feel warm and cozy.
There are endless ways to upgrade and decorate your RV. Many people choose to do full renovations, and who knows? We have tons of things we want to do. But for now, we’re sticking with some basic ways to make it feel warm and comfortable.
